Kim Kardashian is furious at the recent shootings of Philando Castile and Alton Sterling. And in support of the Black Lives Matter Movement, the reality star penned a heartfelt and powerful note on her website. Check it out here.
Kim Kardashian, 35, has taken a break from her usual posts to use her platform to talk about the recent deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile. The reality star took to her website on July 8, to express her condolences, anger, and deep frustrations in wake of the tragic events.
“This week we watched Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, two innocent black men, get senselessly murdered by police officers. Like a lot of you guys, I watched the videos, and was appalled and completely heartbroken. I was left speechless, angry and numb,” Kim began in her open letter.
She went on to express her concern for her own children, especially her son, Saint West, 7 months. “I want my children to grow up knowing that their lives matter. I do not ever want to have to teach my son to be scared of the police, or tell him that he has to watch his back because the people we are told to trust—the people who “protect and serve”—may not be protecting and serving him because of the color of his skin,” she continued. Wow, so powerful!
But while she is upset with the recent shootings, the realty star advised that violence is not the answer. “The last thing we need is to fuel anger with more hate or violence, especially toward the many incredible police officers who risk their lives every single day to protect our families and community,” she added. Kim was referencing the devastating ambush in Dallas on July 7, which resulted in the deaths of five police officers. “We must peacefully use the power of our voices and the strength of our numbers to demand changes in the judicial system so that brutality doesn’t ever go unpunished.”
She concluded her sweet post by calling for action. “It is our responsibility as Americans and as parents to create a safe future for our children. We must do something NOW. We must speak up until we are heard and real, effective changes are made. Hashtags are not enough. This must end now,” Kim wrote.
Kim’s loving message comes after many other celebrities have also voiced their voice on the situation. Kim joins friend John Legend, 37, Beyonce, 34, and husband, Kanye West, 39, in sharing statements.
