Gretchen Carlson dropped a bombshell when she came forward publicly to accuse her former boss and FOX News CEO Roger Ailes of wrongful termination after years of repeated sexual harassment. Insane! Now, here’s everything you need to know about the man Gretchen says fired her for refusing sex!
Roger Ailes, 73, is under fire after explosive sexual harassment allegations made by Gretchen Carlson, 50, the former host of Fox and Friends and The Real Story with Gretchen Carlson. She released a shocking eight-page lawsuit to Politico on July 6, saying he terminated her after 11 hard-working years — all because she was a professional who wouldn’t sleep her way to the top.
1.) Roger has worked as an accomplished media consultant.
He assisted Republican presidents Ronald Reagan, George H. W. Bush, and even 72-year-old Rudy Giuliani‘s first mayoral campaign. He also served as an Executive Producer for the talk-variety show, The Michael Douglas Show, which was nominated for an Emmy Award. President Nixon showed up as a guest and later hired him to do the same position, leading him into the political spotlight.
2.) He became the founding CEO of Fox News on October 7, 1996.
This meant he ran a network with 17 million cable subscribers. This was two years after he wrote a book called You Are the Message: Secrets of the Master Communicators, in which he discusses some of his ideas and strategies on how to build your professional reputation and launch a successful career in the public eye.
3.) Roger’s contract with FOX was renewed in 2012 for four years.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of him serving as head of the news channel. His earnings for the 2012 fiscal year were reported $21 million, so he’s certainly a man of power. However, he did give a sizable donation to Ohio University, his alma matter, to renovate their newsroom in 2007.
4.) Gretchen’s allegations of sexual misconduct are not the first against him.
He allegedly offered producer Randi Harrison a hefty raise in the 1980s if she would hook up with him, according to a biography by Gabriel Sherman. Gretchen’s claims state that she too suffered unfair treatment and salacious comments from Roger due to being a woman. She also made similar claims against her co-host Steve Doocy, 59. Gretchen even previously wrote an in-depth piece for the Huffington Post last year, star
5.) Roger is a married man and the couple share a son together.
He tied the knot to his longtime sweetheart Elizabeth Tilson on February 14, 1998. She’s a former television executive, and now a homemaker and book publisher. The pair share one son together and reside in a private hillside abode, located in New York.
