Time to feel patriotic! Sara Bareilles, 36, certainly knew how to stir the emotions of her audience at the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular. With the stunning backdrop of the east river behind her, she performed Burt Bacharach‘s classic”What The World Needs Now Is Love” — a fitting tribute on America’s birthday to the Orlando victims who lost their lives.
In what was the show’s opener, there was a dimmed silence as Sara began to sing and images flashed on the big screen of families and loved ones who lost their lives in the tragic Orlando nightclub shooting. Images of Paris and Brussels, who also suffered heartbreaking terrorist attacks, also flashed up on screen as the crowd watch the powerful and moving performance.
Sara was joined for Macy’s celebration by some of the biggest artists of the year: 5SOS, Kenny Chesney, Meghan Trainor, and Pitbull, to name a few! Of course, Sara has had a big year herself. Not only did her hit musical ‘Waitress’ premiere on Broadway (and get nominated for several Tonys!),but she also got the chance to go under the sea with Darren Criss, John Stamos, and Rebel Wilson when she performed The Little Mermaid at the Hollywood Bowl. Let’s just say, we’re so glad she’s part of our world! Doubly glad to spend the 4th watching her sing her heart out!
