The Texas mom who killed her two daughters on June 24 apparently struggled with mental illness before her murderous rampage in Fulshear, Texas. Get the chilling details right here.
Mental illness may have played a part in the murder of Madison Sheats, 17, and Taylor Sheats, 22. The girls’ mother, Christy Sheats, 42, who shot and killed them before being shot by police herself on June 24, had a history of mental illness, according to officials. This whole situation is just so tragic!
When the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office arrived at Christy’s home to stop her killing spree, it reportedly wasn’t the first time they had been there. Authorities had been to the Sheats home “for previous altercations” involving Christy’s “mental crisis,” sheriff’s spokeswoman Caitilin Espinosa told People. Although Caitilin didn’t go into any more detail about what those incidents involved, clearly there were some underlying issues with Christy and her relationship with her daughters.
Sadly, by the time authorities responded to frantic calls about Christy’s rampage, it was too late to save Madison and Taylor. The girls’ bodies were both lying in the street, as they had frantically ran out of their house after Christy began firing a gun inside their home during an unspecified domestic dispute. After Christy shot Taylor once, both girls ran for their lives, but Christy managed to shoot Taylor once more and kill her. She shot Madison once outside, attempting to shoot her again when police arrived on the scene. Before Christy could shoot Madison once more, police shot and killed Christy.
Despite being shot once, Madison unfortunately didn’t make it after being rushed to the hospital. To make the murder even more devastating, Christy’s husband and the girls’ father, Jason Sheats, witnessed the entire shooting after begging his wife to not shoot their daughters. We can’t imagine what he’s going through, and our hearts go out to him and the rest of the Sheats’ loved ones during this horribly sad time.
