Call him the late night host with nine lives! Noted car lover Jay Leno barely escaped a major crash while testing a stunt car on ‘Jay Leno’s Garage.’ Click through to watch it all happen!
Jay Leno, 66, marked an item off his bucket list when he got to test out a 2,500-horsepower car on Jay Leno’s Garage, and came way too close to death itself! The car, which was supposed to pop up on two wheels, instead burst into a wild barrel roll. Click through to watch the frightening moment caught on Jay’s dashboard cam!
Jay loves cars, and he’s always wanted to ride in something that could pop up on two wheels. That’s why he teamed up with “Hemi Under Glass” driver, Bob Riggle, 80, at Irwindale Speedway in California for a segment on his show, and made all his dreams come true. Well, close enough.
All was going well when the two suited up and piled into the Plymouth Barracuda, which features a visible Hemi (read: powerful) engine under a glass fastback in the back of the car. Before they began, Bob gave the ominous warning that the car wasn’t built to stand — just to race.
And….cue the car entering into a massive barrel roll about 10 seconds after they got up onto two wheels! The dash cam in the car captured every scary moment, showing Jay and Bob being thrown around the cab and (understandably) freaking out. But don’t worry; they were both completely fine, which is remarkable, since at one point it looked like Jay was in danger of losing an arm!
More important for the two of them, apparently? The car wasn’t harmed at all, just a few cosmetic problems here and there. Pretty great for a massive car crash, right? Bob said in the 50 years he had been racing, this was only his 2nd crash. Wow!
