In just the first 30 minutes of the ‘Game of Thrones’ season 6 finale, MULTIPLE main characters died. From fiery fates to one tragic suicide, we’ve rounded up the death toll for you in King’s Landing.
Cersei set the world as she knew it on fire in the Game of Thrones season 6 finale. Part of the June 26 episode revolved around her trial, and it literally (yes, really) went up in flames. Characters we had come to know and love were burned alive. But there was one tragic death no one could have predicted.
Okay, so here’s what went down. Cersei didn’t show up for her trial before the Seven, and she had everything planned out. She was ready to watch the world burn.
After Lancel was stabbed and left to die by one of Qyburn’s spies, he realized he was in the vicinity of massive amounts of wildfire. He tried to blow out one of the candles to stop what was about to happen, but to no avail. All of a sudden, the tunnels lit up and looked like the same fire that we saw in season 2’s Battle of the Blackwater.
But it didn’t stop there. The eerie green fire burst through the tunnels and killed every single person, including Margaery, Loras and the High Sparrow, at the trial. A very pleased Cersei watched from a distance.
Tommen watched as well, but he didn’t have the same reaction. He realized he had supported the wrong person and betrayed his mother. Now his wife was dead and countless others. He took off his crown and committed suicide by leaping off the balcony.
And that was just at King’s Landing! Cersei was later named Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. Lena Headey’s commanding performance likely earned her both an Emmy and Golden Globe nomination. Just wow.
In case you need a visual to know just how crazy the finale was, this one sums it up:
