We couldn’t be happier that ‘Nashville’ will live on after being axed by ABC, but there are definitely changes being made! Two stars have decided not to return when season five kicks off on CMT.
Get ready to play some sappy love songs — you’re about say goodbye. With the shocking cliffhanger that went down on the finale, we weren’t sure who officially would be returning to Nashville when it starts, presumably in the Fall on CMT. So, do your favorite characters survive the network switch? Well, two of them don’t.
Luke (Will Chase) and Layla (Aubrey Peeples) will not be with returning to the show, our sister publication TVLine reported. While season four had a lot to do with their story line — Luke stuck up for Will when he was attacked and Layla got in the middle of Juliette and Avery’s relationship — neither one will be back when the new team takes over.
While neither Will or Aubrey have commented, Will did tweet “Cowboy boots: Off, Tap shoes: On (Stay tuned),” with a wink face emoji. So, we’ll have to see what’s next for them both!
Executive producers Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick are taking over Dee Johnson‘s role as the show’s showrunners.
So, will anyone else be exiting? Well if it’s up to CMT, no. It’s really early,” he hedged. “We’ve seen some really great press. Connie [Britton] was in Texas last week and said some very nice things about the show,” CMT head of development Jayson Dinsmore told our sister site, Deadline. “When we announced that we picked it up we had several of the cast members onstage with us at CMA’s Best last week. We had Chip [Esten] and Claire [Bowen], so our expectation and our hope is that everyone will participate in this next cycle.”
