These two are quite the duo; Hailee Steinfeld and Shawn Hook hit the stage together for their first time, as he joined her to sing her hit song, ‘Rock Bottom’ at the 2016 iHeartRadio MMVAs!
“Rock Bottom” has been stuck in our heads ever since it debuted, originally sung by Hailee Steinfeld featuring DNCE. However, Shawn Hook, a Canadian artist who is having one heck of a year, joined her in Toronto for the awards show and absolutely nailed it! Did you love their performance?
Shawn opened the performance sitting solo at the piano in a red suit, playing quite a beautiful song — and as the music picked up, Hailee joined him on stage. She looked seriously flawless in a tiny black romper, and absolutely nailed her emotional song, “Rock Bottom.”
We know that the song in general is about a rocky relationship — Hailee has been very candid about that! She actually told People mag that “every damn relationship” has issues like this.
“I’ve experienced that relationship in its entirety. I do feel like there are some songs that really represent a relationship for a relationship, and then when you hear it, you think about that specific relationship, and I have that when I hear ‘Rock Bottom,'” she said.
“Joe [Jonas] and I were working with the same team of writers and producers around the same time as we were working on our EPs, and we would see each other when one of us was leaving. I guess he heard ‘Rock Bottom’ in passing and cut a verse on it, and it turned out to be the best thing that happened to the song. It felt like it there was a real story told between two people, and that’s exactly what I saw when I would hear this song.”
