What a way to make a name for yourself! Arsenal fans know all about his heroics, now it’s time for David Ospina, 27, to show his worth for Colombia! The eccentric goalkeeper made a crucial penalty save in the Copa America after his team’s game against Peru on June 17 ended in a 0-0 draw after 90-minutes. It was an amazing save with his foot, that meant Colombia made the semifinals. Well done, David!
The game itself was very disappointing, even our boy James Rodriguez couldn’t make the difference as defense ruled over attack in an edgy game. We really needed something to give us a thrill, and it came in the shape of a tense penalty shootout in which David became the star!
It was Peru’s third penalty of the shootout, and up stepped Miguel Trauco, who just looked so nervous. He struck his penalty pretty well in the middle of the goal, and it looked like David had dived past the ball. However, with a telescopic leg he managed to kick the ball away to safety. And boy, wasn’t he happy about it!
It’s the first time since 2004 that Colombia has managed to make the semifinals of the competition. They’ve given themselves a real chance of glory this year, even beating hosts USA 2-0 on their way into the latter stages of the tournament.
