Just three days after 49 clubgoers were massacred in Orlando, a shooting in Oakland, CA, has rocked the nation. Americans across the country are outraged that more young lives were taken by gun violence.
It hasn’t even been a week since 49 lives were stolen by a crazed gunman at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida on June 12, and another gruesome shooting has already occurred. Reggina Jefferies, 16, was murdered in broad daylight by two gunmen in downtown Oakland, California on June 15; three others were injured by gunfire. Naturally, Americans are outraged by another senseless act of gun violence. Click through to see some particularly incensed tweets.
The grief is still fresh from the Orlando massacre at Pulse nightclub, in which crazed gunman Omar Mateen, 26, fatally shot 49 innocent individuals and injured over 50 more with an AR-15 assault rifle. Just three days after that horrific tragedy, two unnamed gunmen started shooting in the streets of Downtown Oakland, their gunfire hitting Reggina and three other victims.
The firefight took place next to a vigil for two teenage drowning victims, which the victims were thought to be attending. There’s no word yet on what led to the shooting, or if it had any connection to the memorial. The intensity of the gunfight was so fierce that it blew out shop windows, and sent people running for their lives as the gunmen fought for half a city block, according to witnesses who spoke to the San Francisco Chronicle.
Reggina was shot in the neck and later died of her injuries at the hospital; the three other victims, thought to be in their late teens or early twenties, were all in stable condition after being shot. The disgusting act of violence came as a shock to many Americans because of how close it was to the Orlando massacre. But sadly, they’re not shocked at all that another mass shooting happened:

Each passing day after the Orlando shooting, more information comes out that makes it more horrifying. Omar’s father, Seddique Mateen, told reporters that it was actually Pulse nightclub’s fault that his son was able to shoot over 100 people. “If the owner of this club knew that 300 people were coming, they should have the best security,” he said during a press conference at his St. Lucie, Florida home. SERIOUSLY? The reason for Omar’s shooting is still up in the air, but ranges from intense homophobia, to terrorism.
