Christina Grimmie’s brother, Marcus, joined hundreds of mourners at a memorial service for the late singer on June 13. The 23-year-old heroically tackled his little sister’s shooter in Orlando just days ago, and took a moment to address the crowd at the vigil with a touching speech.
Marcus Grimmie, 23, is absolutely beside himself with grief after the death of his sister, Christina Grimmie, 22, but he was composed and appreciative as he took the podium at her candlelight vigil on June 13. In a moving tribute speech, Marcus fondly remembered his little sis, and also paid tribute to the victims of the Orlando shooting that took place just two days after Christina’s death.
“Christina was awesome,” Marcus told the crowd of fans and loved ones, who gathered in Christina’s New Jersey hometown to mourn together. “She loved this town, she loved this state, she loved singing, she loved the Lord and she loved me and she was just my baby sister.” Stream Christina’s music HERE.
As we previously reported, the 22-year-old was holding a free meet and greet for fans after her show in Orlando on June 10 when Kevin Loibl, 27, walked right up and shot her. Marcus, Christina’s tour manager, dove into action and tackled Kevin to the ground, which is when the gunman shot and killed himself.
“I missed the first glimpse, but witnesses say she was arms open wide [to the shooter],” Marcus continued. “She had no idea and she treated everybody the same.”
Two days after Kevin murdered Christina, Omar Mateen opened fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando, just miles away, leaving 50 people dead. and Marcus made sure to address that tragedy, as well.
“I had five people fly out [to Orlando], my mom and dad — people bought them place tickets,” he began. “Adam Levine paid for Christina’s funeral, Selena [Gomez] is singing a song and crying. These people didn’t have that. And we’re blessed to, so I’m at great peace right now. She’s in a better place.” So sad.
