Kimbo Slice’s fans will be able to remember his incredible spirit and even more unbelievable career thanks to an upcoming TV special about the late MMA fighter. When, where, and how can you watch this special tribute? Find out all the details right here!
As the MMA world continues to grieve the loss of Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson after his sudden death on June 6, fans of the sport will soon have a meaningful way to look back on all that Kimbo accomplished while he was alive. Spike TV will be airing an hour-long tribute to Kimbo — and we have everything you need to know about it.
So when is this special, you ask? It will air on Spike at 7 p.m. EST on Friday, June 24. It’s unclear exactly what will be featured in the 60-minute tribute, but it will likely feature highlights of his career as well as a brief look into his life outside of fighting. The Kimbo special will air right before the Bellator 157 “Dynamite 2” event, which pits Quinton Jackson against Satoshi Ishii.
Sadly, the network that’s airing Kimbo’s tribute (Spike) is the same network that was supposed to air his next fight. He was scheduled to face James Thompson at Bellator 158 on July 16, but reportedly pulled out due to health issues prior to his death.
After being hospitalized reportedly because he was in “dire” health condition, Kimbo Slice tragically passed away at the young age of 42. Following his abrupt death, it was revealed that Kimbo had been diagnosed with congestive heart failure and a liver mass, for which doctors had informed him a heart transplant was necessary. Because his cause of death is fairly clear, doctors won’t be performing an autopsy on his body.
Fans immediately flooded social media with devastated messages upon hearing the news of Kimbo’s shocking death, with his fellow fighters even chiming to say what a great person he was. He clearly made an impact on the MMA community, and while we’re still sad over his death, we’re excited that he’s going to be honored in such a special way!
