Greg Rikaart is officially a dad! The ‘Young and the Restless’ star welcomed a beautiful son into the world along with his hubby on June 12 — also the same day as the horrific Orlando shootings. And while Greg was thrilled about becoming a dad, he also addressed the devastating tragedy. See his loving message here.
Greg Rikaart, 39, and his husband, Robert Sudduth, 39, became parents to an adorable baby boy on June 12. Of course the two were elated about the birth of their child, but the overall day had a grim shadow over it due to the heartbreaking shootings that occurred at Pulse, a gay nightclub in Orlando, earlier that same day. And in an epic message, the soap opera star took to social media to announce the arrival of his son while simultaneously addressing the horrific tragedy.
“We fight hate, fear, bigotry, homophobia and injustice in the world with love, intellect and enlightenment,” Greg wrote on Instagram while posing for a family photo with his and Robert’s newborn. “In the truest and most pure definitions of the latter words, it is with full hearts that Rob and I take great pride in introducing our son, Montgomery Argo Rikaart-Sudduth.”
The post continued, “He was born in Roseville, CA at 5:01pm on 6/12/16. He is light and love and magic. Monte, Rob, myself and Marcela, our trooper of a surrogate, are all doing fantastic.” Talk about a heartfelt post. For a day filled with such devastation, confusion, and utter sadness, it served as a nice reminder for fans that there is still beauty and love in the world.
“Babies are a blessing. They are our future. All the best to all of you. ♡ Love can conquer hate,” one fan commented on the black and white portrait. “Congratulations such a beautiful gift to the world .. he is adorable xx sending love,” another gushed.
The happy news came more than a year after the Hollywood couple said “I do” in a beautiful beach wedding ceremony in Maui. “Holy matrimony,” Greg shared on Twitter with a candid photo at sunset. “So much love today. Thanks for it all. Rob and I have enjoyed reading your kind wishes.”
Greg, who has been playing Kevin Fisher since 2003 on the long-running CBS soap, The Young and the Restless, won an Emmy for his portrayal in 2005. But it was three years ago when Greg came out publicly on Twitter, on the day the U.S. Supreme Court struck down key provisions of the Defense of Marriage Act and allowed same-sex marriage to resume in California.
