From most watched to most grubbed? ‘Orange Is The New Black’ fans can get a taste of what it’s like to be in jail — literally! A diner in Singapore is set to be remodeled into the Litchfield Penitentiary Cafeteria. So cool!
It looks like Orange Is The New Black fans may have something else to obsess over, that is before the season 4 debut of the highly-anticipated Netflix series on June 17. The OverEasy diner in Singapore will soon be transformed into the Litchfield Penitentiary Cafeteria and featuring limited-time specials to promote the show. See the jailbird-inspired menu below with the looks to dissuade you, but the flavor to persuade you!
Taking a trip to Litchfield Penitentiary Cafeteria may certainly involve converting some of those racked-up air miles. Netflix is behind the transformation of the OverEasy diner, which will be serving gourmet dishes on plastic trays during June 16 and 17. Of course, it’s all about the experience and ambiance for diners according to executive chef Bjorn Shen. The “cafeteria” will even be offering the dreaded Nutraloaf — which is served to inmates who are on the naughty list. “Since this is not real prison, I’ve made this dish look and feel like a Nutraloaf, but taste much better,” Bjorn tells Mashable. “Mine’s made of mushrooms, cheddar, quinoa, pumpkin and nori.” Not so bad, right?!
Other delectable items on the menu include the corn appetizer with jalapeño, cheese and lime. And for dessert? A white chocolate-coconut pudding with almond crumble, which sounds too good to be true, thus being renamed to “gruel.” Utensils may also be a thing of the past, given the site’s advice about the other temporary convicts: “the lunch-mates you’ll make here can make or break your stay, so choose your seat wisely.” Diners ages 16 and up are welcome and encouraged to book their spot online at Chope, since only limited walk-ins will be accommodated.
Orange Is The New Black has enjoyed plenty of praise after being critically-acclaimed at this year’s 22nd annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. The Emmy-Award winning Netflix series walked away with the trophy for Outstanding Cast in a TV Comedy. Now, OITNB can join the list of other television series that later received their own themed restaurants including Seinfeld, Harry Potter and Saved By The Bell. Set your calendars and hide your forks, folks! ”It’s just like the Hamptons, only horrible,” Nicky (Natasha Lyonne) jokes in the promo for season four.
