Selena Gomez’s broken heart over the tragic loss of Christina Grimmie continues to ache. In the wake of Christina’s murder on June 10, Selena canceled her meet-and-greet in Miami. Get the sad details right here.
So heartbreaking. Selena Gomez, 23, was so overwhelmed by sadness after the horrific shooting that took 22-year-old Christina Grimmie‘s life that she decided to cancel her meet-and-greet with fans in Miami on June 11. Selena still managed to perform her show, but her devastation on stage made it clear that meeting fans would’ve been just too difficult.
Just hours after the news broke that Christina was killed, Selena decided to make a couple of changes to her June 11 Revival Tour stop in Miami. Prior to her tearful show, Selena must have had an extremely difficult time pulling herself back together backstage, because she didn’t hold any meet-and-greets that night, according to E! News. As much as Selena loves to meet her fans, clearly her mental and emotional state were too affected by Christina’s death that night.
Christina’s life was tragically taken at her own meet-and-greet outside of the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, when a man approached her with a gun in hand and fired five shots at her in front of a group of around 60 fans. Her shocking and tragic death resulted in a slew of musicians sending their love to Christina and her family, Selena being among the first. A longtime friend of Christina’s, Selena shared a sweet picture of herself and Christina and captioned it, “My heart is absolutely broken. I miss you Christina,” on Twitter. In addition to her sweet Twitter tribute and the meet-and-greet cancellation, Selena added one more way to honor her late friend on Instagram. In the middle of her Miami set, Selena dedicated her Hillsong cover, “Transformation” to Christina. After telling the crowd how much Christina meant to her, Selena couldn’t even get through the song without breaking down. We can only imagine how difficult it would’ve been for Selena to meet fans that night as well, especially since her good friend lost her life doing the same thing.
Selena and Christina met through Sel’s stepfather, Brian Teefey (who served as Christina’s manager) about five years ago when Brian discovered her on YouTube. Since then, Christina has practically became family to Selena, even touring with Sel’s on her Stars Dance and We Own The Night tours. Our hearts go out to Christina’s family and Selena during such a difficult time.
