Christina Grimmie, 22, was pronounced dead in the early hours of June 11, following a terrifying shooting outside her concert in Orlando, Florida. She was best known as a contestant on season six of The Voice, who came in third place and was part of Adam Levine‘s team.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord,” her publicist said in a statement obtained by HollywoodLife.com. “She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. Additionally, her family has now created a GoFundMe page in her memory and are asking that if you’d like to give back and help the families in need you can do so here. The Orlando police also confirmed her passing on their Twitter account.
The Orlando PD reported that Christina left the Plaza Live Theater in Orlando, Florida following her concert. She was doing a meet and greet with her fans, along with the band, Before You Exit, who also performed. A man then walked up to her and shot her multiple times; her brother Mark immediately tackled the shooter who then turned the gun on himself and was pronounced dead at the scene. Christina was taken to the Orlando Regional Medical Center, and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Cops later revealed that the suspect had been carrying two handguns, as well as a knife.
Following the shooting, The Voice released the following statement on Twitter about their season six contestant: “We are heartbroken. @TheRealGrimmie is a loved member of our family. Our thoughts are with her and her family.” They later added, “There are no words. We lost a beautiful soul with an amazing voice. Our hearts go out to the friends, fans and family of @TheRealGrimmie.”
