YES! After ABC shockingly cancelled the beloved series, it was announced on June 10 that CMT would be picking up the show for season 5, according to an exciting report!
Nashville’s coming back, y’all. A new report claims that the show has been renewed for season 5 by CMT. Fans everywhere were devastated after the show was cancelled by ABC after 4 seasons, but we can all dry our tears! Our favorite country characters will be back again!
Nashville will return for a fifth season and will be broadcast on CMT and streamed on Hulu, according to The Tennessean. A deal was reached on June 9 after weeks of negotiations.
ABC revealed the network would be cancelling the country series back in May 2016. A season 5 renewal at ABC seemed to be in the cards, especially since producers Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick were hired as new showrunners.
However, ABC ended up nixing the series. But Lionsgate TV started shopping the show to other networks. Hulu and CMT were among the networks that Nashville was pitched to, according to our sister site Deadline. In the end, after massive negotiations, CMT decided to revive the series.
Since the show is officially coming back for season 5, what does this mean for Hayden Panettiere’s character, Juliette Barnes? In the “series finale,” it appeared Juliette’s character may have been killed in a plane crash while on her way back to Avery and her baby. We’ll just have to wait and see if Juliette lives to see another day!
