His amazing long-range shot was the perfect way for the French to get their campaign off to a winning start, and what a goal it was. There isn’t a goalkeeper in the world that would’ve been able to have saved it!
Dimitri is coming off an incredible season for West Ham, in which he scored some memorable goals, but this could’ve been his most-important goal this year. He had the French faithful at the Stade De France up cheering like crazy, as his team got the three points they wanted.
The game was level after Romania had equalized with a penalty following Olivier Giroud‘s second half goal. But that didn’t deter them from attacking the Romanians in the final moments, until something had to give. And boy, was it an incredible strike from distance!
Getting the ball on his trusted left foot after a magical pirouette, Dimitri took aim, just outside the right-hand corner of the penalty area. The ball flew into the top corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance whatsoever. It was a fitting way to end the game in the final moments.
It was the best way to decide the game, and Dimitri really was pulling all the strings in that second half and deserved to be the hero on the night. Great work!
