It has been an AMAZING series between the Pens and the Sharks so far — the former came out strong, winning the first two games at home 3-2 and then 2-1 (IN OVERTIME)! Game 3 was absolutely HUGE for San Jose, and they delivered in front of their home crowd, scoring a 2-1 victory in another nail-biting overtime match on June 4.
The guys couldn’t make it two in a row, though, and the Penguins won 3-1 on the road on June 6, putting the series score at 3-1. That means tonight is do or die for the Sharks, and if the Pens win, they’ll get to hoist the Stanley Cup on their own turf in Pittsburgh.
Since the Sharks were formed in 1991, the team has never won a Stanley Cup Championship, so the team is really looking for it to be their year. Meanwhile, the Pens just won back in 2009, but they have an incredible team this year, with their captain, Sidney, playing better than ever. The Penguins also won the cup in 1991 and 1992, right in the middle of their memorable Mario Lemieux era.
Home ice, a hot streak and a major lead in the series? Things are all lining up for tonight to be a victory for the Pens, but as we know, anything can happen! If the Sharks win, the teams will head back to San Jose for Game 6 on June 12.
