Looks like Columbus Short is officially headed to jail. The former ‘Scandal’ star was sentenced to 30 days in prison for violating probation, also being ordered to six months in a drug treatment program. Get the details right here.
We won’t be seeing much of Columbus Short for the rest of the year. After appearing in court on June 8, the 33-year-old actor was slammed with a 30-rugay prison sentence and six months in a live-in rehab facility. Columbus’ legal issues have been occurring since 2014, but it seems they finally reached a conclusion — unfortunately not in Columbus’ favor!
Columbus was caught violating his probation when he tested positive for cocaine and marijuana use in April. He was first put on probation after pleading no contest to a felony assault at a family gathering in 2014, where he knocked a man unconscious. The actor appeared in a Los Angeles courtroom nearly two months after his alleged probation violation, where prosecutors argued that he is continuing to smoke marijuana during his probation as testing show that his THC levels have been increasing every week. Ultimately, the judge decided Columbus needs to serve one month of jail time for his wrongdoing and another six months in a live-in drug treatment program.
At the same time Columbus was put on probation, he was also issued community service hours. In addition to his continued use of drugs, prosecutors told court officials that Columbus has yet to complete any hours of service in the two years since his sentence. He’s definitely not doing anything to get himself out of trouble, huh?
Despite the fact that Columbus is seemingly ignoring his court orders, his attorney, Ludlow B. Creary, says he anticipates that his client will be released from his jail time soon. Although Ludlow says Columbus has no comment on the court’s findings., according to TMZ, he and his lawyer did try to pull a fast one on the judge by playing the sympathy card, as his sister passed away of heart failure just one week before his court appearance. Clearly that plea didn’t work, and in then end, the actor apologized. Columbus has already been in custody for 6 days, so he has 24 more to complete.
