What a night for Carrie Underwood! The singer took home two big honors at the CMT Awards on June 8, including the CMT Performance of the Year award for her rendition of ‘Smoke Break’ at CMT Instant Jam. If you never saw it, you HAVE to watch it right here!
Carrie Underwood, 33, absolutely owned the CMT Awards on June 8: She looked incredible, performed AND won the awards for Female Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year! The latter was for her performance of “Smoke Break” during her CMT Instant Jam session in September, and you can relive the moment right here.
In case you’re not familiar, CMT Instant jam is when country artists announce locations of a small show just hours before taking the stage, and Carrie fans in Atlanta were in for a treat when she did just that in their city last year. The show aired on CMT in December, and the 33-year-old was deservingly recognized for the performance at the CMT Awards.
“Smoke Break” was at the top of the charts when the Instant Jam went down, so the crowd was super into it as Carrie rocked out on her acoustic guitar and belted out her amazing vocals.
Still, she was up against some pretty stiff competition for the buckle. The other nominees were Adam Lambert & Leona Lewis (“Girl Crush” from CMT Artists of the Year), Brantley Gilbert & Lynyrd Skynyrd (“What’s Your Name from CMT Crossroads), Cheap Trick & Jennifer Nettles (“I Want You To Want Me” from CMT Crossroads), Chris Stapleton (“Nobody To Blame” from CMT Artists of the Year) and Darius Rucker (“Alright” from CMT Instant Jam). Whoa!
Overall, it was an incredible night for Carrie — “Smoke Break” also took home the award for Female Video of the Year, and everyone was totally blown away by her incredible performance of “Church Bells,” not to mention the stunning, sheer jumpsuit she wore on stage. Is there anything this gal can’t do!?
Do you think Carrie was the right winner for this award, HollywoodLifers? What do you think of the performance?
