The NBA is completely devastated after hearing news of Sean Rooks’ death. Players, coaches and former stars have taken to Twitter to mourn the loss of the Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach, and it’s truly heartbreaking.
Sean Rooks, 46, was just too young to die. The former NBA player’s sudden death was reported on June 7, and as news has spread, fellow basketball stars have flooded social media with tributes for one of their own. See their sweet messages here.
The 46-year-old’s death was first reported by TMZ, then confirmed by his own mother with a heartbreaking statement. “It is with deep sadness and overwhelming grief that we morn the sudden loss of my son, Sean,” she wrote. “Our family asks that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this incredible difficult time.
Shaquille O’Neal, Quentin Richardson and more are among the stars who’ve shared their condolences, memories and more on social media. Although Sean’s cause of death has not been confirmed, it’s reported that he had a heart attack — so sad.
Sean played at the University of Arizona in college, then went on to play 12 seasons in the NBA. He moved teams around a lot, playing with the Lakers, Mavericks, Clippers, Hawks, Magic, Hornets and Timberwolves throughout his impressive career.
