Oh no! Did Simon Cowell just let it slip that One Direction is over for GOOD? The music mogul, who launched 1D into stardom, got super candid with fans in a recent interview and pretty much said what we were already speculating. Read his full quote here!
Say it isn’t so! Simon Cowell, 56, has finally given us something to go on in terms of One Direction‘s lengthy hiatus. But honestly, what he had to say wasn’t exactly what fans want to hear. The America’s Got Talent judge, unfortunately admitted that the boyband is FAR from ending their hiatus anytime soon! But does this mean that the group has officially called it quits? Get the details below.
“One Direction, I don’t think we’ll see as a group for a while now, if I’m being honest with you,” Simon revealed to Variety magazine when asked if the band would be performing on America’s Got Talent this season. And while Simon answered the question quite honestly, he also crushed every fan girl’s dreams in the process!
It just CAN’T be over! For those who need a refresher, One Direction is currently on an indefinite “hiatus,” which began earlier this year. And while the temporary disbandment is only expected to last about 18 months, it’s been rumored that the band has officially broken up.
After all, back in March 2015, the band lost one member, Zayn Malik, 23, when he left to focus on a solo career and caused quite a stir in the process. Hence One Direction’s fifth studio album, Made in the A.M., which was released in late 2015, was the first without Zayn. And some say Zayn’s decision to leave has instigated some type of domino effect with the other members.
The group, which currently consists of Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles, and Louis Tomlinson, however, have assured fans that they are NOT splitting up, despite constant, conflicting buzz. But Simon’s latest comments just seem to add fuel to that fire!
And with Harry developing his acting career, Niall experimenting with some solo music, Louis focusing on his newborn son, and Liam spending tons of time with his new girlfriend, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, it does seem as though the foursome have other things on their mind than getting back together. But who knows — only time will tell!
HollywoodLife.com reached out to One Direction’s rep, but unfortunately they had “no comment” on Simon’s statement. However, other sources close to the band have confirmed that One Direction remains “on a break” for now.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers — is 1D really over for good? Sound off!
