Welcome to Week 2 of ‘America’s Got Talent’ auditions! There were several of amazing acts in the first week of ‘AGT’ which meant that there’s already a decent number of acts through after just one week of the competition. So will the judges be more strict this time around?
With the addition of Simon Cowell to the America’s Got Talent judges panel, Season 11 is bringing out some of the best acts the show has ever seen! The judges seemed to love most of the people who came through in Week 1, so it will certainly be interesting to see what they’re into this week. Follow all of the action with our live blog right here!
The show kicked off with an adorable mother/son pair named Alla and Daniel who dance together. Dancing to “Moves Like Jagger,” Daniel and Alla totally rocked their performance and almost immediately had everyone on their feet! There’s no chemistry quite like family, huh? Simon and the judges certainly thought so — it was a unanimous yes!
After dancing we see contortionism from a guy named Jonathan, who blew the judges away with his ability to bend his body in the craziest ways. “That was fantastically weird…I’m gonna remember you,” Simon said. With a comment like that, of course Jonathan was through to the next round!
Next we have a Musicality, a high school choir group from a rough neighborhood in Chicago. They came to prove that where they come from doesn’t affect what they can do, and boy did they do that. The group chose to sing a One Direction song — tugging at Simon’s heartstrings, eh? — and completely gave me chills when they all sang together. And after getting four yesses, it was hard not to get all choked up watching how happy they were!
With the judges (especially Simon) in a bit of a grouchy mood after some rejects, what better way to lighten the mood than with a laughter coach? Although the judges and audience got a good laugh out of it, Tita ended up driving them a bit mad and was quickly booted off the stage. Annnnd we head to commercial with Simon saying “What the hell was that?” Evidently this week isn’t going as well as last…
Finally, another great act! Family band Edgar didn’t just have a great story, they had some powerhouse vocals too. I think they may be my favorite act so far, they were absolutely incredible! So excited to see what they do in the next round!
The variety of acts on this show doesn’t cease to amaze me. We have a guy named Gary who is apparently the oldest daredevil in America. He built an insanely tall stack of chairs and managed to not just stand on top of them, but do a handstand on it! WHAT?! Obviously that deserves four yesses!
Drums, leather boots, and whips make up the next act, the so-called “Magic Mike of Argentina.” They can dance like crazy and have great hair…okay, I’m on board. The audience totally loved them, and all the judges could say was “I loved it!”
We haven’t seen another comedian since 6-year-old Nathan last week, and the judges were eager to laugh again (and not with the help of an overbearing “laughing coach”). First up we meet Danny, who went down in flames pretty darn fast. But then a guy named D.J. got up and totally changed the game! He had all the charm and humor the judges were looking for, and they sent him on through — totally approve of that decision.
Oh the surprises this show can bring. When they introduced an 82-year-old man who said he sings karaoke, I definitely imagined I’d be hearing Frank Sinatra or showtunes. Uhh yeah, that was about as far opposite as you could get from what he actually did. Ever imagine an old man singing a song called “Let The Bodies Hit The Floor”? Me neither…except he was actually pretty good, and even got three yesses!
Another thing I love about AGT is the different cultures it brings together. A group from Japan wowed everyone with an awesome dance and drone routine, which was possibly the most unique act we’ve seen so far! It will definitely be interesting to see what else they do as the competition continues.
To close out this week, 12-year-old Grace brought her little guitar to the stage and sang an original track — yep, she writes her own stuff at 12. Do we have the next Taylor Swift on our hands? Judging by the crowds’ roar and the way the judges shot out of their seats, we just might! Oh, and Howie Mandel used his Golden Buzzer to send her straight to the live shows…so look out T-Swift, here comes Grace! It’s almost insane to think these acts will be getting better from here!
Are you watching AGT, HollywoodLifers? Who has been your favorite act from the first two weeks so far?
