The search is on for the Man of Steel, but for fans on Twitter (myself included), there’s not really a better option out there than Tom Welling.
Superman is officially coming back to The CW to join Supergirl — and while we’re not sure it’s completely necessary, the news has everyone talking about who could and should join as Melissa Benoist‘s long lost cousin. When it comes to social media, it’s no surprise that Tom Welling is leading the pack with nominations!
For those of you who didn’t do TV in the early ’00s, Tom landed the lead on Smallville on The WB (yes, that’s what The CW used to be!) show, that ran from 2001 to 2011. So, it’s no surprise that fans now want him back — badly. When reading some fan reactions, I actually came across a Change.org petition to get the actor to join!
“Superman coming to #Supergirl Season 2. Time for some Justice…get Tom Welling suited up!,” one fan tweeted. “Someone free Tom Welling’s schedule and get him on the show. NOW,” another added. “Only one answer fits if #Superman is going to appear on #Supergirl on CW – Tom Welling. Please and thank you,” wrote another.
Tom recently spoke about doing some sort of crossover with Supergirl, but he wasn’t sure it would make sense. “We had the Supergirl character, and in her own way. I think Supergirl the television show would probably have to have their own Clark Kent character in their own way,” he told Examiner. “Their tone is different than what we did. I don’t know it’s set at the exact same time. I think it’s more modern than “Smallville” was. So, I don’t think the crossover could be a direct correlation, if you know what I mean. I don’t think the character I played and the character that is being playing on Supergirl are in the same universe.”
Granted, he also added he would still consider playing a superhero again. So, should the time be now?
