Kanye West’s surprise NYC concert led to riots in the streets after thousands of fans came out to see Kanye perform. Fans climbed on top of cars and people appeared to get trampled on as Kanye rode through the streets. Yeezy even asked Mayor Bill de Blasio to shut down the block outside Webster Hall, but police had to take control before things got really dangerous.
Kanye’s surprise pop-up show — that he announced after the Governor’s Ball got cancelled — never happened. More than 4,000 fans hit the streets in the hopes of seeing Kanye perform at Webster Hall at 2 a.m. The crowd continued to grow and get more out of hand. At 1:45 a.m., Webster Hall cancelled the surprise show.
Even though the surprise concert was cancelled, Kanye arrived at around 2:00 a.m. The crowd went wild and the excitement reached a whole new level. Kanye rode in a car down the streets and waved to fans. Check out the videos below.
“Too many people were trying to push into Webster Hall and that’s when police showed up,” a fan told WABC. Kim Kardashian posted a Snapchat video of Kanye trying to call the mayor of New York to clear the streets so fans could have a “party outside.”
The NYPD started clearing out the fan-filled streets at around 2 a.m. Police revealed that Webster Hall decided it wouldn’t be safe to hold the concert with such a large crowd outside. The venue can only hold 1,500 people.
One person at the scene was arrested for disorderly conduct. Witnesses also say that a woman broke her ankle trying to dance on top of a car. Wow. These fans went crazy for Kanye!
