Watch yourself, Piers Morgan! The 51-year-old journalist wrote a column about the late Muhammad Ali after the legendary boxer passed away on June 3, but Piers didn’t have all nice things to say about The Greatest. In fact, Piers suggested that Muhammad was just as offensive as Donald Trump when he was alive!
“Muhammad Ali said far more inflammatory/racist things about white people than Donald Trump ever has about Muslims. #fact,” Piers tweeted after sharing his column with his followers. Oddly enough, Piers didn’t share this thought in his actual piece, and it’s even a bit unclear what triggered him to tweet it. But not surprisingly, his comment didn’t sit well with Ali fans!
Even despite getting some backlash, Piers still didn’t back down on his point. He did credit Muhammad for being an important voice in the Civil Rights movement, but argued that it doesn’t make some of the statements Ali made acceptable. After receiving an awful lot of hate, Piers shared an example of Ali’s comments that shut most of the arguments down!
Watch this #Ali interview & imagine if it had been #Trump saying all this.
Then you may understand my point. https://t.co/goZbedGz9N— Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) June 5, 2016
Judging by the video Piers shared, Ali never meant any harm by his comments — similar to Piers’ situation when he shared his “#fact” with the Twitterverse. Muhammad’s last comment in the video was even, “I don’t hate nobody.” Considering Donald never seems to care if he offends people with what he says, it’s hard to imagine comparing him and Muhammad. But as Piers told those who disagreed with his comment, Ali’s comments would likely sound pretty bad if it were Trump saying them!
