Muhammad Ali was truly a fighter until the end. The boxing champion died on June 3 of septic shock, due to unspecified natural causes, but he apparently held on for 30 minutes after his organs failed, according to daughter Hana Ali. Hana posted about the remarkable event on Twitter, on June 4. Click through to read it!
Hana graciously thanked her father’s fans and well wishers for their love and support during her family’s horrible time, and shared details about the intimate last few moments of Muhammad’s life. She paints a heartbreaking, but lovely scene: Muhammad passed with his entire family at his side, praying, hugging and kissing him until he took his last breaths.
Hana was stunned when her father’s heart continued to beat for a full 30 minutes after his organs failed. It’s what she calls “a true testament to the strength of his spirit and will.” We have to agree! Hana had been sharing sweet throwback photos of herself and her beloved dad while he was in the hospital. After his death, she tweeted: “Our father was a ‘Humble Mountain!’ And now he has gone home to God. God bless you daddy. YOU ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!”
Muhammad, 74, passed at 9:10pm ET on June 3, after being rushed to the hospital the day prior, “barely breathing.” The Olympian had been hospitalized on May 30 with a respiratory infection. It wasn’t clear if his re-hospitalization meant something worse, but it was then reported that he was in grave condition, and on life support. We’re so happy that his family was able to be there with him.
