How absolutely heartbreaking. In the wake of iconic boxer, Muhammad Ali’s, heartbreaking death, the athlete’s family has released a tearful statement addressing the world’s great loss.
The world has been mourning the loss of a boxing great, Muhammad Ali, born Cassius Marcellus Clay, Jr. The legend was only 74 years old when he tragically passed away on June 3 after struggling with Parkinson’s disease. Muhammad’s grief-stricken family has finally spoken out about this tragedy, leaving us all in tears. Read their full statement here.
“After a 32 year battle with Parkinson’s disease, Muhammad Ali at the age of 74. The three-time World Heavyweight Champion boxer died this evening,” the family spokesman, Bob Gunnell, said. SO sad!
Bob also noted that Muhammad’s family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and support. They also ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time.
We can only imagine the immense amount of grief Muhammad’s friends and family are going through. After all, he was an incredibly iconic American figure. But the boxer had been struggling with Parkinson’s disease for years and was even hospitalized on multiple occasions in the last couple of years.
Back in December 2014 Muhammad was hospitalized for a urinary tract infection. A few weeks later he was back under doctors’ care as a follow-up for treatment to the infection. Obviously Muhammad was a fighter, both in the ring and in real life, which makes this news all the more heartbreaking.
Celebs such as George Foreman, 67, have since responded to Muhammad’s passing via social media. “Ralph Ali, Frazier & Foreman we were 1 guy. A part of me slipped away, ‘The greatest piece,’” George said in a statement on Twitter on June 3, praising Muhammad’s skills and transcendence as an athlete. There’s no question, this legend will definitely be missed.
Our thoughts go out to Muhammad’s family, friends, and fans during this tragic time. HollywoodLifers, leave your condolences below.
