Wait, what?! ‘Game of Thrones’ director Jack Bender just dropped a bombshell on fans — season 7 will only be SEVEN EPISODES! How can they fit everything in?!
Why is this happening to us? Game of Thrones is right in the middle of season 6, but we’re already wondering about season 7. Well, one of the directors of the show revealed in a new interview that the show’s seventh season will only be 7 episodes long. Is that even possible with a show like Game of Thrones?
“They’re only doing seven [episodes], and they’ve got their regulars who have done it forever,” Jack told Vanity Fair when he was asked if he’s returning next season.
This is insane! How can the show possibly fit everything they usually spread over 10 episodes into 7 episodes?! Ten episodes is not enough already! While everything might not be set in stone yet, Jack seems pretty certain.
Game of Thrones co-creator David Benioff said a few weeks before the season 6 premiere that seasons 7 and 8 would likely be shorter seasons.
“I think we’re down to our final 13 episodes after this season. We’re heading into the final lap,” David told our sister site Variety. “That’s the guess, though nothing is yet set in stone, but that’s what we’re looking at.”
So if next season is 7 episodes, then the final season would only be 6 episodes. Please let it not be true! Or if it is, let the episodes be 2 hours long. We need more! At this rate, the show will be finished before George R.R. Martin releases The Winds of Winter.
Game of Thrones season 6 airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
