He’s known as the heir to a Canadian fortune and a comic book writer, but who is Blake Leibel? Here’s everything you need to know about the man who allegedly tortured and killed his girlfriend and the mother of his child, Iana Kasian.
Blake Leibel, 35, has been charged with more than one felony in the death of his girlfriend, Iana Kasian, 30. Find out exactly who Blake is, where he came from, and why his name is big enough to make international headlines in this horrific murder case.
1.) Blake Is The Son Of Lorne Leibel, A Real Estate Mogul
You may have noticed that media outlets keep referring to Blake as a “Canadian Heir,” and that’s because his father, Lorne Leibel, is a prominent real estate man in the Toronto area. Lorne also competed in the 1976 Olympics, in the sailing category. As for Blake’s mother, Eleanor Leibel, she is the daughter of the creator of Alros Products, a company that produces multi-layer food barrier. As previously reported, Blake was receiving a hefty monthly allowance from this family that allowed him to live in West Hollywood, California with little to no income of his own.
2.) Blake Was Previously Married To Another Woman
It’s unclear when Blake’s relationship started with Iana, but his previous relationship has been revealed as incredibly serious. Blake was married to Amanda Braun, with whom he attended many high-profile events within the Los Angeles area. Unfortunately, the couple split and reportedly finalized their divorce sometime in 2015.
3.) Blake & Iana Had A Baby Together
Very little is known about their child, but it is being reported that Iana was the mother of Blake’s only child. The child was born on May 3, but has been reported that the baby was with a “family friend” at the time police discovered Iana’s body.
4.) Blake Wrote Eerie Graphic Novel About A Serial Killer
In Blake’s quest to become a famous comic book creator and screenwriter, he gained notable attention for his graphic novel, Syndrome. The author once described the novel as, “a lengthy graphic novel that grappled with the questions surrounding what provokes a person to commit evil acts,” reports The Washington Post. His follow-ups to the graphic novel were similarly dark and disturbing, including Psychopomp, which was about a “madman” who traveled the world looking for people to kill.
5.) Blake’s Girlfriend Moved Out Days Before Being Murdered
As HollywoodLife.com previously reported, Blake was accused of sexual assault and arrested on May 20. After hearing about the arrest, for which Blake paid $100,000 in bail to be released, Iana reportedly broke up with him and moved out of the apartment they had been sharing. On Tuesday, May 24, Iana reportedly went to the apartment to talk to Blake which is when she allegedly disappeared. Just two days later police discovered her mutilated body inside the apartment, along with Blake who had allegedly put up barricades made of furniture to keep the police out.
Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Iana Kasian during this very difficult time.
