As Johnny Depp’s friends continue to defend him against Amber Heard’s abuse allegations, she’s released a new statement explaining why she didn’t come clean with her claims to the police right after the pair’s blowout fight on May 21. And, actually, she says she was only trying to protect him the whole time!
The exact nature of Amber Heard, 30, and Johnny Depp’s volatile relationship still isn’t totally clear…especially since she didn’t tell police about his alleged abuse when the cops first became involved on May 21. Find out why the actress claims she wanted to keep quiet here!
“As the result of Amber’s decision to decline giving an initial statement to the LAPD, her silence has been used against her by Johnny’s team,” the 3o-year-old’s lawyer said in a statement. “Amber did not provide a statement to the LAPD in an attempt to protect her privacy and Johnny’s career. Johnny’s team has forced Amber to give a statement to the LAPD to set the record straight as to the true facts, as she cannot continue to leave herself open to the vicious, false and malicious allegations that have infected the media.”
Amber was granted a temporary restraining order against her ex on May 27 after she filed court documents accusing him of domestic violence. In the docs, she went into great detail about the alleged fight that went down between her and Johnny on May 21, when cops were first called. She also shared photos of herself with a huge bruise on the right side of her face, which she claims she obtained after he threw a cellphone at her.
“Amber has suffered through years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of Johnny,” her lawyers continued in the new statement. “In domestic violence cases, it is not unusual for the perpetrator’s playbook to include miscasting the victim as the villain.”
Still, cops have confirmed that they found “no evidence” of domestic abuse when they arrived at the May 21 scene, which is why the actor faced no punishment following the alleged attack. Meanwhile, his legal team claims Amber only made abuse allegations to “secure a premature financial resolution,” but she is insistent that that’s not the case.
“We took the high road,” her attorneys added in the statement. “Unfortunately, Johnny’s team immediately went to the press and began viciously attacking Amber’s character. Amber is simply a victim of domestic violence, and none of her actions are motivated by money. Amber is a brave and financially independent woman who is showing the courage of her convictions by doing the right thing against Johnny’s relentless army of lawyers and surrogates.”
Things are definitely getting messy between these two, and they will go to court next month to find out if her permanent restraining order will be granted.
