The disgust and devastation keeps pouring in after a gorilla was shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo because a child fell into its enclosure. Charlamagne Tha God and more celebs are furious that the 17-year-old gorilla’s life was cut short. See their tweets now.
Celebrities are fuming over the Cincinnati Zoo scandal. After a child fell into a gorilla’s exhibit on May 28, the gorilla was shot and killed. Stars like Katherine McPhee, Charlamagne Tha God and more took to Twitter to express their fury over the senseless killing of the endangered animal.
The 4-year-old child somehow fell into the exhibit at the Cincinnati Zoo, and the 400-pound gorilla grabbed the child. The whole thing was caught on tape. After 10 minutes of the child being inside the exhibit, the zoo’s Dangerous Animal Response Team made the decision to kill the gorilla, named Harambe, with a rifle. The zoo decided not to use a tranquilizer on the gorilla, which would not have killed him.
When news spread of the shocking end to Harambe’s life, celebrities and animal lovers alike were outraged. Many believe the gorilla was just trying to protect the child, not hurt him.
Some even say the parents are to blame for the entire situation. Others are blaming the Cincinnati Zoo. And now there’s new video that shows the gorilla holding hands with the child. See what the stars are saying about the gorilla’s death below.
This is why I hate zoos! This is so messed up. This poor gorilla. https://t.co/sdr3KXMyQa

How was the gorilla enclosure not child proof? You're dealing with an endangered species & yet you've made it possible for kids to fall in?

The child was taken to the hospital after the incident, but he’s been since been released. Harambe had just turned 17 years old on May 27. What a tragedy. The Cincinnati Zoo released the following statement on Harambe’s death:
“The Zoo security team’s quick response saved the child’s life. We are all devastated that this tragic accident resulted in the death of a critically-endangered gorilla,” the zoo’s director Thane Maynard said in a statement. “This is a huge loss for the Zoo family and the gorilla population worldwide.”
