The Indy 500 competitors better watch out, because Juan Pablo Montoya is coming for them! The Indy 500 is Sunday, May 29, and Juan is the favorite to win this year’s race. We’ve got all the details on this year’s top racer — find out everything you need to know!
The Indy 500 is almost here and Juan Pablo Montoya is ready to rock and roll! The 40-year-old was last year’s big winner, and this year, people are still banking on him to take that top spot. Yes, he’s this year’s favorite to win, and we have everything you need to know about him before the big race on May 29. Check it out!
1. He won the 2015 Indy 500
2015 was a phenomenal season for the driver. He finished first in the Indy 500, beating out Will Power after passing him with only four laps to go. Definitely a remarkable feat for any driver! One of the many reasons he is a standout for this year’s race.
2. He’s a family man
He is married to his beautiful wife, Connie, and together the couple has three children. He is the proud father of one son named Sebastian and two girls named Paulina and Manuela.
3. He’s had some tax troubles
As the age-old adage goes, mo’ money, mo’ problems. In 2013, it was reported the racer owed over $2 million to the IRS due to disallowed deductions from 2007 and 2008. That’s a heck of a lot of money for one man to pay back. He has since filed to challenge the audit, and the matter was handled privately.
4. He’s a giver
During the Brazilian Grand Prix between 2002 and 2005, Juan wore a helmet designed by children from Colombia because of a yearly competition held by the Formula Smiles Foundation. Giving back has always been an integral part of Juan’s career, and he has never lost sight of where he came from. He is one of the rare stars who makes it his mission to serve those less fortunate.
5. Formula Smiles Foundation
You know that foundation that holds the yearly competition? Well, Juan actually created that with his wife Connie as part of his duties as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador. The incredible foundation helps children in poor areas by building or improving sports facilities. A true champ indeed!
