Red Nose Day is here! You’ve seen the snapchat filter, you’ve see the celeb pics — but what is it?
Red Nose Day started in the UK over 25 years ago — and now, it’s taking over the US. Today, you can run to your local Walgreens and buy a red nose to support children. Plus, you can tune into the star-studded special tonight on NBC. Here is everything you need to know!
What is it?
Red Nose Day launched in the U.S. in 2015 as a special day to come together and make a difference for kids who are most in need. In its first year, it raised more than $23 million for the Red Nose Day Fund — which goes to support the neediest communities, and keep children and young people safe, healthy and educated. It has been going on in the UK for years, and has raised more than $1 billion globally!
How can you get involved?
You can help raise money by buying red noses sold exclusively at Walgreens stores, watching and donating during the special, and organizing fundraising events.
What does the red nose symbolize?
Wearing a red nose is funny and fun, the organization explains, and laughing is a way to unite people. “Wearing a Red Nose is a way to create moments of special human connection. Wear it, share a laugh, and get involved to help kids who need us most,” the official site wrote.
When is the special?
The Red Nose Day Special will air on NBC live from LA on Red Nose Day, Thursday May 26 from 9-11PM ET. It’s hosted by Craig Ferguson!
