Lukas Graham made sure there was plenty of heart at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards. The Danish band busted out its hit song, ‘7 Years’ during the May 22 awards show, serenading the audience with a sweet performance!
Denmark is known for Legos and Hans Christian Andersen. Now, thanks to the powerful performance from Lukas Graham at the 2016 Billboard Music Awards, the Scandinavian country will be the next hottest place for soulful pop music!
Lukas Graham delivered their knockout performance in the middle of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada during the May 22 event. Lead singer Lukas Graham Forchhammersang, 27, sang his heart out to all those who could listen and it was incredible! Though, he did make sure to pause to call for a short drum solo, showing that a soulful song can have a little edge to it.
The band — singer Lukas, drummer Mark “Lovestick” Falgren, 27, bassist Magnus Larson, 25, and keyboardist Kasper Daugaard, 26 — have already gone quadruple-platinum in their home country of Denmark. It’s this success that has given the singer some amazing confidence.
“Too many people don’t have big enough balls or ovaries to be themselves. I do,” Lukas told Billboard, adding that it didn’t take him long to learn this attitude. “I was still young when I realized my voice could make people shut the f**k up.” Well, the world is definitely listening to Lukas now, especially to how he weaves pop, Irish folk and hip-hop together in his band’s music.

Though the urban legend is that Lukas Graham found success after they put two homemade videos of their songs “Criminal Mind” and “Drunk In The Morning” online, Lukas has trashed that nonsense. “The media made up this nice story about us being an unsigned group that put a video on YouTube, but that’s not how it happened.” In fact, the group was already signed to Copenhagen Records, a subsidiary of Universal, when their videos were released.
“7 Years” is a bona fide hit. The song reached No. 1 on the real time Billboard + Twitter Emerging Artists ranking on Nov. 16, which followed the song’s Spotify Viral Hits and Viral 50 success, according to Billboard. The song has also been a worldwide success, reaching No. 1 in several European countries. After that amazing performance, the band is ready to take over America.
