This is just awful news. Two horses died at the Preakness Stakes on May 21 in tragic circumstances in the first four races in what is supposed to be a HUGE day for horse racing fans. Click here to read the sad details!
It’s supposed to be the day when Nyquist romps home to give himself a chance to win the American Triple Crown, however we have to sadly tell you that two horses suddenly died in the first four races of the Preakness Stakes on May 21. It really is an absolute tragedy and just awful luck.
Homeboykris, a 9-year-old, collapsed after winning the first race of the day. The Maryland-bred horse was on his way back to the stables when it slumped to the ground after leaving the winner’s circle. So horrible.
Then, four-year-old Pramedya stumbled and suffered a broken left front leg in another race and had to be euthanized on the track for his own good. It was only the fifth race of his entire career, and its jockey Daniel Centeno, who also fell, broke his collarbone in the tragic fall and has been taken to a nearby hospital.
As for Homeboykris, a cause of death for the horse hasn’t been determined. The horse will be taken to New Bolton Center Hospital where a necropsy will be performed to determine what happened.
According to reports, Major League Baseball hall of famer Joe Gorre was a partial owner of Homeboykris. Our thoughts go out to him, and the other owners, as well as the owners of Pramedya.
Unfortunately, as glorious as it is to see horses racing and in full flight, there are dangers involved. Accidents can happen at breakneck speeds and sometimes there will be tragedies. It’s just so sad.
