‘Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising’ is the most fun you’ll have at the movies this year. Zac Efron and Seth Rogen are back for round two, along with Chloe Moretz, and the sequel is progressive, extremely clever and hilariously dirty. Check out our review!
Let’s be honest, Neighbors surprised us all when it came out in 2014, and it made Zac Efron a bonafide comedy star. I was hesitant about Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, but the sequel proved me wrong on all levels. There was barely a moment I was NOT laughing. The sequel is a refreshing take on the comedy genre and proves girls have just as much fun — if not more — as boys.
There’s no doubt about it — replicating the magic of the first movie in a sequel and making it just is good is a tough feat. Well, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising does just that. This time around, Mac (Seth Rogen) and Kelly (Rose Byrne) are once again at odds with the Greek system, but they’re at war with a sorority now.
But don’t think the sequel is by any means tamer just because it focuses on a sorority. This sorority, headed by Chloe, wants to party hard, smoke weed and more. Chloe and her girls aren’t OK with anyone telling them no.
Zac Efron effortlessly enters the scene and is able to live vicariously through the girls. His character, Teddy, helps the sorority out until things really get out of hand. After they kick him out, he switches sides. That’s when things really get funny.
Zac and Seth make one incredible comedy team. Their chemistry together is effortless. They’re able to bounce off each other, providing more laughs than you ever thought possible. Zac’s comedic timing is like fine wine — it’s only getting better with age.
There’s also one incredible moment where Teddy dances in front of the sorority girls to distract them while Mac steals their weed. If Channing Tatum ever wants to do a Magic Mike 3, Zac should definitely star. And if you’re a fan of the Zac and Dave Franco bromance, you’re in for a real treat.
But at the end of the day, this movie is about the girls and female empowerment. Chloe may be only 19 years old, but she’s already a seasoned pro. She’s a force to be reckoned with alongside Seth, Rose and Zac. Chloe’s character, Shelby, and the rest of her friends are bold and don’t hold anything back. They even refer to frats as “rapey.” Yes, really.
Amidst the partying and feuding, Neighbors 2 explores blossoming friendships, both young and old. The movie also includes hilarious appearances from Hannibal Buress, Kelsey Grammer, Billy Eichner, Selena Gomez and more. Do yourself a favor and go see this movie. You have my word that you won’t regret it.
