The music world lost a legend on May 16. Emilio Navaira, who’s known as the King of Tejano music, sadly passed away after suffering from a massive heart attack — and the Tejano community is in mourning. See how fans are remembering the singer right here.
Emilio Navaira has tragically died at just 53-years-old. The Mexican singer did not survive after suffering from a heart attack on May 16, and his fans are completely devastated over the news. Check out how the Latin music community is honoring the late singer on Twitter here.
The “It’s Not The End Of The World” singer performed a concert in Mexico on May 11, but just five days later, he was pronounced dead following the scary heart attack. So sad.
In case you’re not familiar with Emilio’s epic career, he was known for performing country and Tejano music, and is one of the few Tejano artists to have success in the United States. He had more than ten songs chart on the Latin Billboard charts, then switched his focus to mostly country music in the mid-1990s. Emilio hasn’t had a popular single since the early 2000’s.
The 53-year-old leaves behind five children — three are from his first marriage to Cynthia Navaira, and the other two are from his second to Maru Navaira. He and Maru divorced in June 2011.
Back in 2008, Emilio was involved in a massive tour bus crash (he was driving, despite not being licensed) that left him in critical condition. He suffered a bad head injury in the accident, and it was feared that he might not survive, but just three days later, he woke up from a coma and was able to move his arms and legs.
It was later revealed that Emilio was intoxicated while driving at the time of the accident. He pleaded guilty to the DUI charges and spent three days in jail and 27 days on house arrest. After surviving a string of such tragic events, it’s so sad that Emilio lost his life to a heart attack years later. See how fans are mourning him here:
