Did Dikembe Mutombo just prove that the NBA draft lottery is rigged? The basketball legend tweeted congratulations to the Philadelphia 76ers on getting the first pick before the lottery even happened on May 17 — and fans were totally freaking out over his major flub!
Uh-oh, Dikembe Mutombo! The 49-year-old NBA sent Twitter into a frenzy right before the NBA draft lottery on May 17, when he seemingly revealed that he already knew one of his former teams, the Philadelphia 76ers, had won the first pick…even though the draft was still hours away. Not only did he potentially give away a major piece of information, but Dikembe may have settled the conspiracy that the draft is completely rigged!
“Congrats to @Sixers on grabbing the #1 spot in the #NBADraft. #PHILAfirst,” Dikembe tweeted the afternoon of May 17, along with a picture of himself and his former Sixers teammate Allen Iverson. In the middle of his excitement, Dikembe realized what he had just done and immediately deleted the tweet — but not before fans managed to catch it!
Although Dikembe shared another tweet apologizing for the premature celebration (“Sorry, guys.Got excited about the @sixers odds and got ahead of myself.Still keeping my fingers crossed for tonight.”), fans were NOT buying his explanation for the flub. They totally called him out for it! See some of the tweets below:

Hopefully the NBA will solve this Mutombo mess by giving the Lakers the first pick now and pretending nothing ever happened 😅

Fans have speculated that the “lottery” system is pre-determined, which makes Dikembe’s tweet all the more suspicious. If the Sixers do indeed get the first pick in the 2016 draft, it’ll be pretty tough for the NBA to deny that they had already picked the order prior to the lottery, or at least explain how Dikembe knew who would be getting the first pick. So it wouldn’t just be Dikembe who’s under fire anymore — the NBA as an organization will be getting plenty of backlash! Now we really can’t wait to see what happens in this year’s draft!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Dikembe’s tweet means the NBA lottery is rigged? Who do you hope gets the first pick? Tell us below!
