The internet went all kinds of crazy the other day when Golden State Warriors player Stephen Curry’s, 28, mother, Sonya Curry, 49, was seen celebrating her son’s epic shot by dancing on a guy that wasn’t her husband. While that may seem a little petty to you, it definitely put the spotlight on the MVP’s mother. So what should we know about her? Keep reading to find out some interesting facts!
1. Everyone needs to chill out…
Sonya may have been seen around the world rubbing her booty on another man that’s not her husband, when her son scored an epic shot during his game against the Portland Trail Blazers, but there’s no need to call her out about it. The mystery guy isn’t her secret lover or anything, it was actually her son’s former Davidson College playmate, Jason Richards, 29. So innocent!
2. Her husband was there the whole time!
Before you start to judge, you must know that Sonya’s married to former NBA player Dell Curry, 51. He was actually in the same game suite she and Jason were in when the now infamous butt-celebration-dance went down.
3. Steph isn’t her only talented child.
When Sonya was seen dancing on her son’s friend, her daughter was quick to hilariously come to her rescue. “Moms gonna be hot they caught that lol,” Steph’s younger sister Sydel Curry, 21, wrote on Twitter. Adding, “Timeout: y’all gotta chill, my father is 2 seats away from her lol.” She also has another son that’s younger than Stephen, his name is Seth Curry, 25, and he plays professional basketball for the Sacramento Kings. Talk about an awesome crew of kids!
4. Sonya’s husband isn’t the only one her athletic kids got their sports abilities from!
Sonya was a volleyball and basketball star at Virginia Tech, where she met her husband. During her high school days, at Radford High, she won state championships in both sports. She said in interview in 2013 that she and her husband didn’t let their kids play competitively until they were in middle school. She added that they never wanted their kids to feel pressured into playing sports.
5. Steph Curry Owes Her $100 for Every Turnover He Makes During a Game
Cha-ching! Sonya knows how to help her son realize his mistakes all while raking in some cash. She said in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle that she fines Steph for every turnover he has in a game. “It’s a verbal contract. Steph likes a challenge,” she said. Her son owes mom $100 for every turnover in a game. He’s allowed three chances, but after that Steph has to pay up. He’s even talked about it before, saying, “It keeps me on edge every game. I know she’s going to text me or have some witty one-liner about what she’s going buy.” The Chronicle says that payment is made at the end of the season, usually in the form of a gift or clothing, that Steph buys.
So HollywoodLifers, do you think Sonya is just as cool as her son now?
