With ‘Clueless’ officially becoming a Broadway musical, we can’t help but rack our brain to try and cast our favorites — but we may not have to look far. Director Amy Heckerling just revealed that one star from the 1995 movie has actually been at the script reading!
You fell in love with Cher, Dionne and Tai on screen so it’s pretty clear that we’ll be all about the Broadway show of Clueless, that is currently still in the works. The original director, Amy Heckerling, just revealed that they’re currently in the middle of sing-throughs and some actors you may recognize may be on stage! Read her interview here.
“It’s a jukebox musical. It’s as if the ‘90s was one year, and we’re taking songs from the ‘90s and playing with the lyrics to make them tell the story. We just had a sing-through/read-through the other day, and it went really well,” Amy told MTV News. “They’re just wonderful young actors. A lot of them are coming [to the retrospective].”
While we don’t have a date yet, she confirms that “the studios have been completely, 100 percent, dotting i’s and [crossing] t’s — that’s an expression nobody uses anymore, because nobody writes — but nobody wants to start renting stages yet, because nobody likes to spend money until there’s no way anything could go wrong.”
However, not to worry — the producers who signed on are the producers from Jersey Boys and Urinetown.
As for who’s in the cast, Amy said that at a recent reading included Dave Thomas Brown from Heathers, and Taylor Louderman from Bring It On.
“At the last reading, we had Wally (Wallace Shawn) playing himself, the teacher.” Yes, that’s the original Mr. Hall. So, will he end up in the musical. If it’s up to Amy, that’s a yes. “God willing!” was her answer.
So, do you think Wallace should be in the Broadway show? Let us know your thoughts!
