KISS singer Gene Simmons just majorly dissed Prince in a shocking new interview, where he claims the “Purple Rain” singer was leagues ahead of Michael Jackson, which is why he thinks it’s “pathetic” Prince “killed himself with drugs and alcohol.”
Gene actually told Newsweek that he has no sympathy for anyone that dies from a drug overdose because he believes it was their “choice” to do so. To hear more about Prince, head over to iTunes and download the latest HollywoodLife podcast for free!
When asked if he thinks Prince’s death was tragic, Gene told Newsweek, “His drugs killed him. What do you think, he died from a cold? I think Prince was heads, hands and feet above all the rest of them. I thought he left [Michael] Jackson in the dust. Prince was way beyond that. But how pathetic that he killed himself. Don’t kid yourself, that’s what he did. Slowly, I’ll grant you … but that’s what drugs and alcohol is: a slow death.”
On a positive note, however, Gene said that Prince’s death hasn’t harmed his legacy. “No. Your legacy becomes even bigger, you become more iconic, if you die before your time – Marilyn Monroe, Elvis (Presley) and all that. They capture the youth,” he said.
At this time, it’s unclear if Prince died with drugs in his system. His autopsy was recently completed, but a cause of death won’t be revealed until the toxicology results come back in the next few weeks.
