What a race! The Kentucky Derby got underway on May 7, as the whole of America was glued to their TVs to see who was going to win the first race of the Triple Crown. Well done, Nyquist for romping first past the post for victory!
There’s no photo finish here! Nyquist showed why he was the dominant horse at the Kentucky Derby on May 7, as he and Mario Gutierrez were the first past the finishing line at the first race of the Triple Crown in glorious sunshine at the Churchill Downs in Louisville. Great job, guys!
Nyquist got off to a very good start, but stayed behind the main pack strategically before the first turn. Danzing Candy took an early lead, with Nquist in third and Gun Runner in second. But it all changed at the stretch when Nyquist took the lead at the final turn. Nyquist won at a canter, finishing at 2:01.31 seconds! And Mario was just so emotional after winning the prize! Second favorite Exaggerator came runner-up, while Gun Runner ended up a respectable third.
The race, often called the most exciting two minutes of sport, was over one and a quarter miles, as 20 horses battled it out to be top… horse. The lucky winner will now receive a HUGE cash prize with the guaranteed purse standing at $2 million. That’s one lucky trainer who will raking in a small fortune!
This year’s attendance for the event was almost at 200,000 spectators, who were all desperate to catch a glimpse of the winning horse, as well have the opportunity to place their bets. We’re sure a lot of money was won and lost on this race, and of course the only real winners were the bookmakers as millions of dollars were placed on bets.
It was just a super occasion, as always is, and the perfect weather for the best way to start the Triple Crown. And what a performance by Nyquist — he just stormed to victory!
