Idol fans will remember that he wore a fab disco Afro wig for a performance of Earth Wind and Fire’s hit “Let’s Groove” on the show, and came in eight place, behind Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. Clay, upon hearing the news, said he was “devastated” over Rickey’s death.
Fans also loved that he would smile and chant “Hercules! Hercules!” while on the show. In 2008, Rickey gave an interview to USA Today, speaking about his life after the show. At the time, the Idol alum was working at a sports bar in Oklahoma City. “I don’t want to sing Happy Birthday all tenderly to a grown man,” he told the outlet about his job. “It’s as embarrassing to him as it is to me.” We are so devastated that Rickey is no longer with us, and our hearts go out to his friends and family.
