Be still, our beating Broadway hearts. Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth — the original Elphaba and Glinda in the musical ‘Wicked’ — have reunited to perform one of the most emotional numbers in the show. WATCH and try not to fall out of your seat!
It’s been 12 years since Wicked debuted on Broadway, but when Idina Menzel, 44, and Kristin Chenoweth, 47, did a duet of “For Good” at Second Stage Theatre’s gala honoring Wicked producer David Stone on May 2, it felt like not even a day went by. Watch these Broadway queens defy, ah, time, right here!
You’re not dreaming — Kristin and Idina have reunited to perform together for the first time in twelve years, the last being at the 2004 Tony Awards. This time, they didn’t sing in costume (boo), but they looked stunning as they belted out “For Good”, the heart-wrenching duet between Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda, as a farewell to each other. The duet is part of the series Out of Oz: Wicked Studio Sessions for Wicked‘s YouTube channel. Be sure to check it out to see more Wicked alumni and current performers sing reimagined versions of songs from the show! It’s almost too much for a Broadway devotee to handle.
Idina and Kristin haven’t been twiddling their thumbs since leaving Wicked. Idina, of course, is one of the stars of Disney’s Frozen, and Kristin has been busy winning Emmys for her multiple television roles, plus she’s back on tour again. Is it too much to pray for an Idina cameo on one of Kristin’s tour dates? You never know — it could happen!
