It’s our favorite horse race of the year, the Kentucky Derby! That means it’s the perfect excuse to whip up a Mint Julep and we have easy to make recipes to get you ready!
The Kentucky Derby is almost here and that means fun cocktails! HollywoodLife.com has compiled 13 cocktail recipes that definitely need to be part of your viewing party. Whether it’s Cruzan’s Hats Off Julep or the Basil Hayden’s Derby Day Julep, we have the perfect cocktails for you!
Cruzan® Hats Off Julep
2 parts Cruzan® Estate Diamond® Dark Rum
1⁄2 part Turbinado Simple Syrup*
Pinch of Mint
Method: Muddle Mint and Berries in a julep cup. Add Cruzan® Estate Diamond® Dark Rum and Turbinado Simple Syrup (recipe below) and fill with crushed ice. Take a bouquet of Mint and rinse with water, then sprinkle Mint with powdered sugar for garnish with 3 speared Blackberries.
GREY GOOSE OAKS LILY
1 Part GREY GOOSE® Vodka
½ Part Orange Liqueur
½ Part fresh lemon juice
2 Parts cranberry juice
Method: Fill glass slightly above rim with cubed ice. Pour ingredients in order listed to ½ inch from top of glass. Stir slowly and present with a fresh blackberry and a slice of lemon.
GREY GOOSE LE GRAND FIZZ
1 ½ parts GREY GOOSE® Vodka
1 parts ST-GERMAIN® Elderflower Liqueur
½ part freshly squeezed lime (approx. half a lime)
2 parts chilled soda water
Method: Build ice into an oversized cabernet wine glass. Add GREY GOOSE vodka and freshly squeezed lime juice. Top with ST-GERMAIN elderflower liqueur and chilled soda water. Garnish with two lime wedges and a GREY GOOSE stirrer.
Banana on Banana Julep, $14

2 parts Maker’s Mark
½ part Giffard Banane du Bresil
1 part Banana Shrub
Handful of Mint Leaves
Mint Sprigs, Dried Banana Chips and a Cornichon, for garnish
Combine all ingredients, stir and pour over crushed ice into a julep crush.
CLASSIC MINT JULEP

4 sprigs of fresh mint
2 ounces Bulleit
1 ounce water
1 teaspoon sugar
Muddle 3 mint sprigs, add sugar and water to bottom of glass.
Fill with crushed ice. Add Bulleit. and stir.
Dust 4th mint sprig with powdered sugar for garnish.

1 ¼ oz Bulleit
½ oz simple syrup
5 sprigs of fresh mint
5 fresh raspberries
Muddle simple syrup and raspberries in a mixing glass.
Add mint and press lightly to release oils. Add Bulleit. and mix well with cracked ice.
Strain over crushed ice. Garnish with a raspberry and smacked fresh mint.
GINGER PEACH JULEP

10 sprigs fresh mint
1 ½ oz Bulleit
½ oz Mathilde Pêche Liqueur
1 Bar spoon of Sweet Ginger Puree
Splash of filtered water
Muddle Ginger Puree, Pêche Liqueur and mint leaves lightly in a mixing glass. Add ice, water and Bulleit. and mix well with a bar spoon.
Double strain over crushed ice in a glass. Garnish with ginger and large mint sprig.
Basil Hayden’s Derby Day Julep

4 parts Basil Hayden’s® Bourbon
4 chopped Strawberries
10 Spearmint Leaves
4 Lemon Wedges
1 part Water
2 tbsp. Brown Sugar
1. Muddle brown sugar and water in pint glass until sugar dissolves.
2. Add chopped strawberries, lemon wedges and mint leaves and muddle well.
3. Add Basil Hayden’s and shake.
4. Add ice and shake once again.
5. Strain cocktail over crushed ice and garnish with a mint sprig and strawberry.
Knob Creek® Mint Julep
1 1/2 parts Knob Creek® Single Barrel Reserve Bourbon
2 bunches mint
1 part simple syrup* (see below)
1 splash soda
Mix sprigs of mint with simple syrup and a splash of soda.
Fill julep cup with fine crushed ice and pour in bourbon.
Lift out and decorate with two mint leaves.
Add powdered sugar over mint to add an optional frosted appearance.
*Simple Syrup Recipe
Combine equal parts of sugar and water in a saucepan.
Bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until sugar is fully dissolved.
Allow to cool before using in cocktail.

1 part Buffalo Trace Bourbon
1 part Southern Comfort
1 part Licor 43
1 ½ parts fresh pineapple juice
½ part fresh lime juice
2 dashes of Peychaud’s Bitters
Garnish: Pineapple frond
Instructions: Build in a shaker, add ice, shake well until chilled and strain over fresh ice.
THE MUMM JULEP
3 ounces of G.H. Mumm Champagne
.5 ounce of Martell Cognac
One sugar cube
6-7 mint leaves
Garnish: mint bouquet and strawberry
Glassware: Julep cup or Rocks glass
In a julep tin or rocks glass, add mint leaves and sugar cube and a splash of water. Gently press mint leaves with a muddler to release oils.
Add Cognac, Champagne, crushed ice and stir gently.
Top with more crushed ice to mound.
Garnish with a mint bouquet and strawberry.
Crabbie’s Moscow Mule
3 – 4 Mint Leaves
¾ oz Lime Juice
½ oz Simple Syrup
1 ½ oz Vodka
Crabbie’s Original Alcoholic Ginger Beer
Method: Muddle the mint gently in the bottom of your glass. Add the lime juice, simple syrup and vodka, along with 3 – 4 ice cubes. Then add a splash of Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer.
Method: Shake & strain over crushed ice
Garnish: Mint sprig & apple fan
10-15 Mint leaves
2 oz Bernheim Whiskey
3/4 oz apricot liqueur
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz house simple syrup
3-4 dashes Curtis Smoked banana bitter
3/4 oz organic apple juice
