Jon Snow is alive (again), but he’s a changed man. ‘Game of Thrones’ star Kit Harington teases Jon’s new outlook on life post-death and what he saw when he died. ‘GoT’ spoilers ahead!
Jon Snow was resurrected after a brutal death on the May 1 episode of Game of Thrones, but things aren’t just going to go back to normal. Kit Harington, 29, previews what’s next for Jon Snow and reveals his character’s terrifying experience.
“At first, I was worried that he’ll wake up and he’s the same, back to normal — then there’s no point in that death,” Kit tells Entertainment Weekly. “He needs to change. There’s a brilliant line when Melisandre asks: ‘What did you see?’ And he says: ‘Nothing, there was nothing at all.’ That cuts right to our deepest fear, that there’s nothing after death. And that’s the most important line in the whole season for me.
How awful for Jon Snow! Despite his horrifying moment in oblivion, Jon needed this in order to take the next step in his life.
“Jon’s never been afraid of death, and that’s made him a strong and honorable person,” he continues. “He realizes something about his life now: He has to live it, because that’s all there is. He’s been over the line and there’s nothing there. And that changes him. It literally puts the fear of god into him. He’s seen oblivion and that’s got to change somebody in the most fundamental way there is. He doesn’t want to die ever again. But if he does, he doesn’t want to be brought back.”
While many of us thought Jon wouldn’t even be a part of this season, this will be his “biggest season” yet. “It’s a massive season for Jon,” Kit told the outlet. “It’s his biggest season for him so far.”
Game of Thrones airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
