What ‘Frozen’ needs is a lesbian Elsa — according to, well, Disney fans everywhere! While Anna found true love with the adorable Kristoff, Elsa must be feeling pretty left out. And with a confirmed ‘Frozen’ sequel on the way, fans have already begun begging Disney to just go ahead and say it — Elsa is gay! And better yet, she deserves a GF!
Will Frozen 2 reveal Elsa‘s sexuality? Chances are, yes! In fact, Disney enthusiasts everywhere have been campaigning for Elsa to find love with a fellow female — even creating the viral hashtag, GiveElsaAGirlfriend. And fans may just get their wish. After all, Elsa’s anthem, “Let it Go,” HAS become a triumphant coming-out metaphor. It’s all starting to make sense now!
What began as a tweet from 17-year-old MTV contributor, Alexis Isabel Moncada, has quickly spiraled into a trending topic! Alexis’ #GiveElsaAGirlfriend has become not only one of Twitter’s most-talked-about moments, but it may just cause Disney once and for all to shatter the glass ceiling and include an openly gay character in their next big hit.
“I want young girls to understand that a princess can love another princess,” Alexis explained in an MTV open letter. “The entertainment industry has given us girls who have fallen in love with beasts, ogres who fall for humans, and even grown women who love bees,” she wrote. “But we’ve never been able to see the purity in a queer relationship.” SO sweet!

“I hope Disney makes Elsa a lesbian princess, imagine how iconic that would be.” She added. And we have to say, it would be pretty amazing! Especially, since in 2015 Disney released 11 films — and not ONE of them contained an openly gay character, according to GLAAD’s annual report of LGBT representation.
“Giving young girls the chance to understand that a princess can love another princess the same way Cinderella loved her Prince Charming is vital to their development,” Alexis, who is openly gay, concluded. “No one deserves to feel isolated and confused about who they are. All we need is someone to show us that there are other options, other kinds of princesses, and other ways to have the happy ending that you deserve.”
Disney announced back in March that it was developing the sequel to the Oscar-winning movie that smashed box office records in 2013. Frozen even grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide, making it the most profitable animated movie ever. So obviously Frozen 2 will be a mega hit as well. We can’t wait to see what Disney decides to do with Elsa!
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Should Elsa get a girlfriend in Frozen 2?
