Proof that a vampy lip works even in the spring and summer, celebs like Taylor Swift and Miranda Kerr topped off their glam looks with dark lipstick hues at the 2016 Met Ball. Find out what lipstick shades you need to copy them, ahead!
We tend to keep our cranberry and wine lipstick shades for the dark winter months, trading them in for bright pinks and poppy corals once the warmer weather rolls around. But the lipstick looks at the May 2 Met Ball have completely convinced us to keep our vampy shades a little longer (and add a few more to our collection!).
Showing us that even if you’re typically a classic red lip kind of girl, it’s fun to switch it up to something darker occasionally was Taylor Swift. The pop princess has been undergoing a bit of a grunge makeover as of late, and at the Met Ball, she topped her bold snakeskin print dress off with an even bolder dark wine lipstick. To copy her look, try Urban Decay Matte Revolution Lipstick in Blackmail for a trendy matte finish that wears like a cream.
Rocking a similar look to TSwift was actress Rachel McAdams who opted for a matte wine shade as well. Rachel’s sister, Kayleen McAdams, who’s always behind her makeup looks, used NARS for the perfect vampy shade. To copy her look, use the NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Train Bleu to line and fill your lips.
Other celebrities who rocked the wine lip were models Miranda Kerr and Poppy Delevingne, and actress Brie Larson. To pull the dark lip off, copy the Met girls and pair it with clean skin and minimal eye makeup (aka, save the smokey eye for another day).
If you really want to go bold like Katy Perry, who wore her new CoverGirl Katy Kat Matte Lipstick on the Met Ball red carpet, try a matte navy or go all out with a black shade. The Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Heroine is the perfect navy option that you can build up to a darker shade by lining with a navy lip pencil first, or wear it more sheer on its own. Or go full on goth with Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Perversion, which is a true matte black hue.
